DO STINGER NETS WORK?

______________________________________________________________________________________

Yes!

Some people think that because the stinger nets do not keep out Irukandjis, then they are a waste of time or money -- nothing could be further from the truth!

Stinger nets provide a good measure of protection against box jellyfish, which are the world's deadliest animal, far more dangerous than Irukandjis! A box jellyfish can kill a child or adult in as little as 2-3 minutes. It is imperative to keep box jellyfish away from human skin, and the stinger nets do a good job of this.

Furthermore, looking back over the last 25 years that stinger nets have been in use, they have shown to be not only a barrier device, but also an effective educational device, teaching people when and where to swim safely.

In fact, box jellyfish deaths have dropped dramatically in the North Queensland region where stinger nets are used, compared to the Northern Territory, where they are not used, and compared to the previous hundred years, prior to their use.
